OUR COMPANY
Corporación Minera Centauro is a privately held mining company founded in Peru and dedicated to the exploration, exploitation and processing of polymetallic minerals such as gold, copper and silver. In 1999, the company was incorporated and started operatios under the initial legal name of Chancadora Minera Centauro. Thereafter, in 2011 the company changed its legal name to the current Corporación Minera Centauro.
The impeccable operative efficiency and achievement of Corporación Minera Centauro in the mining sector is the result of its prior know-how as a mining constructor, together with the responsible political-socio-environmental policies followed, which are focused on the environment preservation and the sustainable development of the communities within their direct and indirect areas of influence. In this sense, Corporación Minera Centauro's actions reflect their beliefs and its is through the values that support them such as equity and respect, that the company is based on a win-win entrepreneurial policy which represents a key factor towards achieving a long-term success.
In 2000, Corporación Minera Centauro received the mining concessions of the Quicay Project through a Public Tender process. The company was able to succesfully complete in 2 years all required activities for the start up of the Quicay Project: exploration works, feasibility studies, mining/environmental/social permits, detail engineering, procurement and construction.
In 2002, the Quicay Mine started its operations of gold and silver exploitation and processing. Quicay's initial reserves were considered as 150,000 ounces, nevertheless and acknowledging the continuous and thorough exploration works carried out by Corporación Minera Centauro, new ore bodies were identified and developed to finally exploit 600,000 ounces of ore during the 10 years of Quicay's operational lifespan.
Ore production during the life of the Quicay Mine (years 2002-2011) has been mainly based on gold. However, in order to continue explorations to find economically viable ore deposits, Corporación Minera Centauro conducts intense exploration programs at the surrounding areas to the Quicay mine site and at the prior exploitation area. This is how, by the end of 2011, satisfactory and of great potential results are obtained with the discovery of a copper-gold porphyry deposit, located 2km from the Quicay Mine site - this new deposit is called Quicay II Project. Based on following explorations, within the Quicay Mine pit another mineralized body was identified - this new deposit is called Quicay I Project.
